Our stay at the Sailport Waterfront Suites, in Tampa, Florida

Loading..

Trying to work out where to stay in Tampa, Florida? During our recent stay we decided to book into an apartment style resort rather than the usual hotel about 20 minutes out of town in Rocky Point overlooking the sea. The Sailport Suites is just a few minute’s drive from the airport which makes it ideal if you’ve had a long flight.

It was perfect for us as we were visiting family in Tampa but it still felt like a holiday as we were out of the city centre. The resort offers one and two bed apartments, all with a kitchen and seating area, most with balconies offering beautiful sea views across Tampa Bay.

Our apartment was a private rental, it was decorated nicely with a seaside theme with a decent sized kitchen, breakfast bar, small workspace and a seating area.

The apartment also has a small balcony with a cool telescope to spot the wildlife. It was a lovely quiet place to relax after a busy day.

There was a decent amount of storage space but the bed was pretty small (by US standards).

We had a sofa bed in the seating area which was OK but as there were no black out blinds it wasn’t that easy to sleep. The bathroom had a bath and good shower and it was mostly clean.

Piper clearly takes after her mum and wanted to photograph everything!

The resort has a little heated pool and some sunbeds and a beach bar/restaurant which can get pretty busy in the evening.

We ate there on our first night and the food was fine – usual American diner stuff.

There’s an outdoor exercise area which Piper adored although goodness knows it was too hot to work out on! But I can imagine it’s a good routine if you can bear it!

There’s also sports equipment which we tried out when it cooled down.

There’s plenty of covered parking and you will definitely need a car as there’s not much else within walking distance.

My favourite part of the resort was the sanded area, we loved the beach swing and spent ages just watching the water.

At night they light the fire pit creating a lovely holiday vibe.

We visited the Bahama Breeze Tiki bar and restuarant down the road a couple of times during our stay.

It gets super busy and pretty rowdy in the outdoor area but the food was great with a huge selection available and plenty to keep the kids happy.

The resort has a tiny shop onsite in the reception area, prices are pretty steep and there’s very little choice but it’s good to have for emergencies and if you have a car there are plenty of supermarkets nearby so you can stock up.

This is no five star hotel but it wasn’t bad value for money (for Tampa) and it made a perfectly good base from which to explore Tampa with kids.
