The Westin Nusa Dua Review – a perfect family friendly resort in Bali

Our final stop off on our Balinese adventure was the Westin Resort and Spa in Nusa Dusa and we spent six days of utter bliss. Without doubt my favourite of  all the Nusa Dua hotels. You can read more about the area in our Nusa Dua destination guide here but now I’ll focus on this fantastic resort and all the family friendly features that make it so special. So here’s my family friendly Westin Bali review.

Location of the Westin Nusa Dua

It’s about 25 minutes in a taxi to Nusa Dua from Ngurah Rai International Airport and will cost you around £6 making it a perfect short stay hotel or a good base after a long flight. Nusa Dua was built especially for tourists, it has gated entry and security guards will check your car when you arrive. It all feels super safe, if slightly sterile compared to the rest of Bali.

The Westin Nusa Dua is located on its own stretch of sandy beach. There is also a stroller/toddler friendly footpath connecting all the resorts and a small shopping centre. We found it easy to wander around visiting lots of different restaurants in Nusa Dua, enjoying a stroll back along the beach.

If you want something a little more Balinese, Tanjung Benoa is a short taxi ride down the road although that is also very quiet.

The Rooms and Hotel decor

This is a huge hotel and resort, it’s attached to a conference centre so can get very busy. Westin hotel are normally great for late check outs, this is the first one we have visited in Asia that wasn’t able to extend check out beyond 1pm as they were full. That said they have a shower and room available for guests to freshen up in if you do have a late flight home.

The hotel has a pretty Western feel so if you just stay in the resort it would be easy to forget you are in Bali but it does make it perfect if you are nervous about the cultural differences when visiting Asia with kids.

The room was modern in style with a gorgeous free standing bath and plenty of room for unpacking. The bed was plenty big enough for the three of us but you can request an extra bed setting up if you need to.

The only thing we didn’t like was the teeny tiny balcony area with nowhere to sit. We often like to have a drink outside after putting our daughter to bed but this wasn’t too big of a problem – she simply stayed up a bit later.

The People at the Westin, Nusa Dua

All the staff we encountered were lovely, eager to help and you could tell they genuinely cared about our stay. Some stand outs were the staff at the kids club, my daughter loved them all and they were amongst the best I have ever met.

The pool boys were always up for a laugh and made sure we had snacks and drinks, spoiling the kids at the pool bar and the cleaner of our room was extremely efficient and super friendly.

Special Features for Kids

As this is a family friendly Westin Nusa Dua review we need to talk about the special touches for kids. There is no doubt that this is geared up to be a luxury family hotel. Kids are embraced and catered for as well as the adults.

On arrival we were presented with a kids activity book and a drinks bottle that my daughter was able to fill up whenever she liked for free at various places around the resort – a great way to help her stay hydrated!

We spent most of our days in the pool (mostly around the pool bar area!) where my daughter made some great friends and spent hours playing on the slide, messing around with inflatables and playing ball.

The kids club is without doubt the best we have ever come across. My daughter never wants to stay at kids clubs without me however in this one she was keen to go everyday!

They had a wide range of activities which included yoga, fishing and a movie night but it’s also a great place for them to go and hang out away from the unforgiving Bali sun.

They have lots of play equipment, creative activities and everyday she visited the staff did something beautiful to her hair! You can also order them snacks which they will eat there if staying over lunch or dinner time.

There is also a kids spa which we didn’t try out (there are plenty of cheaper places to get massages outside of the hotel) but I would imagine this is a really special experience if you don’t mind parting with a big chunk of cash!

The Food

The hotel has so many restaurants to choose from – they have an Italian, a Japanese, a Spanish, the main breakfast restaurant, a buffet/Indonesian style restaurant by the beach, swim up pool bar serving snacks and the reception coffee shop which had an amazing spread for afternoon tea! All the food we tried was delicious, my daughter loved the Indonesian Buffet at Ikan on the beach, what child doesn’t love helping themselves to bits and bobs!

The breakfast buffet was immense with one of the biggest selection I have ever seen. I think they cover every single cuisine and there are plenty of healthy options to choose from. If you’re after something a little more filling, I can highly recommend the breakfast tacos or Eggs Benedict. A brilliant way to fuel you up for the day! The breakfast room does get extremely busy and we often had to sit at the next door Spanish restaurant. Not a huge problem but hard to keep an eye on the kids when there were that many people.

The Pools at the Westin Nusa Dua

The Westin Nusa Dua is the kind of resort where you could happily spend all day at the pool. There are plenty of sunloungers, some shaded, some for sun worshippers.

There is a water slide into the pool bar area which the kids seemed to love. Also a separate toddler pool for splashing about in. The main pool is huge and deep enough for a good work out. It’s just 10 seconds walk to the beach if you fancy a dip in the sea.

Value for money

It’s a Westin so it’s expensive by Balinese standards but for all you get I think its well worth it. I think we paid around £140 per night for the three of us. This had breakfast and all the kids club activities included. Imported food and drink is quite expensive as you would expect. Wine is eye wateringly so but that’s pretty standard for Bali.

Wifi

No complaints here, I managed to do some social media posts. And also watch some Netflix on the rare occasion we were relaxing in the room.
